Deenspace ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy and safeguarding your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the Deenspace platform.

We believe in the Islamic principle of trust (amanah) and treat your personal information as a trust placed in our care. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices and giving you control over your personal information. This policy is compliant with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and profile photo.
  • Identity verification: Government-issued identification when required for Host registration.
  • Payment information: Payment card details, billing address, and bank account information (processed securely by Stripe).
  • Communications: Messages sent through the Platform, support enquiries, and feedback.
  • Space listings: Descriptions, photographs, amenities, pricing, and availability information provided by Hosts.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Booking history: Records of all bookings made, including dates, Spaces, and transaction amounts.
  • Location data: Approximate location based on IP address, and precise location when you grant permission for map-based features.
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and screen resolution.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, search queries, and interaction patterns.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: Session cookies, preference cookies, and analytics trackers.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Processing bookings: To facilitate, confirm, and manage bookings between Guests and Hosts.
  • Communication: To send booking confirmations, reminders, updates, and respond to your enquiries.
  • Payment processing: To process payments, refunds, and payouts through our payment partner, Stripe.
  • Improving our service: To analyse usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, and enhance the Platform experience.
  • AI-powered insights: To provide personalised Space recommendations, smart search results, and community insights based on anonymised and aggregated data.
  • Safety and security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 With Hosts and Guests

When you make a booking, we share relevant information with the Host (such as your name and contact details) to facilitate the booking. Similarly, Hosts' information is shared with Guests to enable communication and access to the Space.

3.2 With Stripe

Payment information is securely transmitted to and processed by Stripe, our payment processing partner. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

3.3 With Service Providers

We may share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Platform, including hosting, analytics, email delivery, and customer support services. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

3.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal processes, such as a court order, subpoena, or government request.

4. Cookies and Analytics

Deenspace uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on the Platform. Cookies are small data files stored on your device that help us:

  • Essential cookies: Maintain your session, remember your login status, and ensure the Platform functions correctly.
  • Preference cookies: Remember your settings, such as dark mode preferences and language selection.
  • Analytics cookies: Understand how users interact with the Platform so we can improve our services.

You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform.

5. Data Retention and Deletion Rights

5.1 Retention Period

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. Booking records and transaction data are retained for a minimum of six (6) years to comply with financial and tax regulations. After account deletion, we will anonymise or delete your personal data within 90 days, except where retention is required by law.

5.2 Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
